What is a reverse advent calendar?

Fill a box with an item a day instead of removing an item a day. That is a reverse Advent Calendar. The items can be food, toiletries, stationary or clothing. Decorate a box or container, gather the 24 items during Advent, and return the Reverse Advent Calendar to the church on Sunday, December 23 for a blessing. This is a fun thing for the family to do together and more importantly, it reminds us of the importance of helping others and of seeing the bigger picture at Christmas. After your Reverse Advent Calendar has been blessed, please take it to the charitable organizationof the your choice. (lists and addresses below).

Follow these four simple steps to start this tradition with your family:

Step 1: Start either 24 or 12 days before Christmas.
Step 2: Pick something to collect your advent calendar gifts in.
Step 3: Every day choose something from your own supplies or from a store with your family to donate to your reverse advent calendar
Step 4: Take time to reflect and imagine who you might be helping by starting this special tradition and ask everyone to share a blessing from their life this Christmas.
